During late 1980s, more specifically 1975-80, some of the enterprising Patils belonging to middle class but with a passion for welfare of society and their own community embarked upon the task of establishing an umbrella organization that brings together all Patils residing in Vadodara-the land of Shrimant Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad. However, this movement gained momentum in the year 1980. Initially very few minds brainstormed regarding the steps to achieve the objective of setting up Maratha Patil Samaj Sanghatan.
Owing to unavailability of their own Samaj Sanghatan premises, the initiation was carried out by organizing meeting in public places like Lalbaug, Sayajibaug or even at the residence of a member. A major milestone was achieved when the Maratha Patil Samaj Sanghatan was registered as an organization with charity commissioner Vadodara in the year 1985.
In the beginning selected few individuals took initiative but they were ably supported by several members of the community thereby ensuring successful establishment of ShreeMaratha Patil Samaj Sanghatan. Moreover, a cooperative society was also established.
The contribution of the following founding members/ first committee of Shree Maratha Patil Samaj Sanghatan cannot be forgotten and is worth mentioning here:

The organization has grown over the years and from a meagre membership of 10 families of the community, today Maratha Patil Samaj Sanghatan boasts of almost 1600 registered families.
With advent of time, several different working committees presided over the functioning of organization and with support of all loving members, enrolment of several other new members from the community ensued.
